Note: As a COVID-19 precaution, our iPad kiosks are currently unavailable. Please see this page for more information on our coronavirus response.

The Almonte, Capitol Hill, Ralph Ellison, and Southern Oaks Libraries each have a MediaSurfer, an "iPad vending machine" that allows you to check out an iPad, using your library card, for 2 hours of in-library use. The iPads come preloaded with basic apps, games, and educational software. They can be checked out for up to 2 hours, and if turned in late, accrue late fees of $5 per hour (up to a maximum of $60).

We also have tablets called Playaway Launchpads for all ages that come with preinstalled educational software and that can be checked out for 3 weeks. To see a list of these tablets in the catalog:

  1. Visit catalog.metrolibrary.org and click on the Advanced search link
  2. In the first drop down box, select Call Number, leave contains in the second drop box, enter tablet in the search field and click the Advanced Search button
