Note: As a COVID-19 precaution, our iPad kiosks are currently unavailable. Please see this page for more information on our coronavirus response.
The Almonte, Capitol Hill, Ralph Ellison, and Southern Oaks Libraries each have a MediaSurfer, an "iPad vending machine" that allows you to check out an iPad, using your library card, for 2 hours of in-library use. The iPads come preloaded with basic apps, games, and educational software. They can be checked out for up to 2 hours, and if turned in late, accrue late fees of $5 per hour (up to a maximum of $60).
We also have tablets called Playaway Launchpads for all ages that come with preinstalled educational software and that can be checked out for 3 weeks. To see a list of these tablets in the catalog:
- Visit catalog.metrolibrary.org and click on the Advanced search link
- In the first drop down box, select Call Number, leave contains in the second drop box, enter tablet in the search field and click the Advanced Search button
