Yes, under certain circumstances and at the discretion of the library managers, volunteering at the library can count towards service learning/community service. Volunteer opportunities at the libraries are listed at metrolibrary.org/volunteer, and volunteer opportunities at the Sort Site or Book Sale are listed at supportmls.org/volunteer. If the community service is court-appointed, we need to know that in advance as we do not accept applicants whose service is related to crimes involving drugs, weapons, violence, sexual assault, theft, fraud, or exposure. We do check with an applicant's court-appointed liaison to ensure that the applicant is a good fit for public library service.
If we are unable to meet your need for volunteer hours, you may want to check with other local organizations such as the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma or the Volunteer Center of Central Oklahoma (United Way).
